Steady Steps Learning

Specialist Teaching for Dyslexia

Literacy and Learning Confidence

Building confident readers, writers and learners

What I Offer

I provide specialist teaching and initial literacy assessment for children, young people and adults who are experiencing difficulties with reading, spelling, writing and learning confidence, including dyslexia and literacy-related learning needs.

An initial literacy assessment identifies strengths and areas of difficulty and helps inform an individual learning plan. This assessment is used to identify learning needs and plan targeted support. It is not a formal diagnostic assessment for dyslexia.

Formal diagnostic assessment for dyslexia/SpLD will be available following completion of specialist assessor qualification.

I also offer structured support in primary maths, particularly where literacy difficulties are affecting understanding, confidence or progress.

My approach is calm, structured and tailored to each learner, helping children make meaningful progress while rebuilding confidence and independence.

Is This Support Right for Your Child, Young Person or You?

You may be concerned if your child or young person:

• Finds reading slow or effortful
• Struggles with spelling despite regular practice
• Avoids writing or feels anxious about literacy tasks
• Has low confidence in learning
• Has been identified as dyslexic or is experiencing literacy-related difficulties
• Finds maths word problems difficult to understand
• Struggles to remember number facts or follow multi-step methods
• Is not making the expected progress in school

If this sounds familiar, specialist support can help children and young people develop confidence, independence and more effective learning strategies.

About Me

I am a fully qualified and GTCS-registered primary teacher with extensive experience across class teaching, Support for Learning and school leadership roles.

Throughout my career, I have worked closely with children, young people and adults who experience difficulties with literacy and learning confidence. I understand how frustrating this can feel for both learners and families and the importance of providing the right support at the right time.

I hold a Level 7 Postgraduate Certificate in Specialist Teaching for Literacy-Related Difficulties and am currently studying for a professional diploma to become a specialist assessor of dyslexia/SpLD (specific learning difficulty).

I also support Initial Teacher Education at the University of Stirling, helping to support and develop future teachers while ensuring my own practice remains current, reflective and evidence-informed.

My aim is to provide structured, compassionate support that helps children and young people build skills, confidence and a more positive sense of themselves as learners.
